Key Information:
The Order of Ouissam Alaouite (Wissam al-Alaoui) was established in 1913 as a Moroccan chivalric order to reward meritorious service to the state and crown. This example is the Officer Class (4th Class), identifiable by its breast badge suspended from an orange ribbon with rosette.
Design:
Five-pointed gilt and enameled star with white arms and green wreath between arms. Central red medallion bears the Arabic inscription:
الوسام العلوي (al-Wisām al-ʿAlawī) – meaning “The Alawite Order”, in reference to Morocco’s Alawite royal dynasty.
Reverse with umbrella motif in enamel, symbolic of monarchical protection.
Condition:
Original enamel is well preserved with only minor wear. Gilt details remain attractive. Ribbon retains its rosette, but the reverse side shows traces of old glue or mounting marks (see photos). Otherwise in good collectible condition.
Historical and Collectible Significance:
The Ouissam Alaouite became internationally recognized when awarded to foreign military and diplomatic personnel, especially during and after WWII. Officer Class awards are relatively scarce compared to higher grades, and are valued by collectors of Moroccan and Middle Eastern orders.
